Thank you for your support of our annual Mother of the Year Luncheon! This year, we are proud to honor Marise McDermott and Alma Ramos.

Each year, this event raises funds for AVANCE – San Antonio programs in the San Antonio and Uvalde regions. The programs we offer are intended to help families emerge from the cycle of poverty. We do this through a dual generation approach in our Parent-Child Education (PCEP), Caminos al Futuro (Caminos) workforce development and career readiness, Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

98% of our families are considered low-income households and over 70% speak Spanish as the primary language at home. These two factors combined, can often create barriers to success in education and economic mobility, making it difficult to pursue a more stable path beyond high school. Together, with your support, the commitment of our families, and the hard work of AVANCE program staff, we can help change the trajectory for our community. Simultaneously, this event recognizes two outstanding women who are role models in the community and within their families.
